What is a password generator?
A password generator creates random passwords that are very hard to guess. You choose the length and the characters: lowercase and uppercase letters, numbers, symbols or your own characters. Each character is picked with your browser's secure random number generator.
Need one password? Set the number to 1. Setting up accounts for a school, company or system, or creating coupon codes for a campaign? Create up to 30,000 at once. Every password in the list is different. The first 100 are listed on screen, and you can download all of them as a .txt file in one click.
How to use it
- Pick a length: the random part can be 4 to 128 characters long.
- Set how many: choose 1, 10, 50, 100, 500, 1,000, 5,000, 10,000, 20,000 or 30,000, or type your own number.
- Choose characters: lowercase, uppercase, numbers, symbols and, if you like, your own characters. Type unwanted characters into "Characters to exclude".
- Set rules and format: start with a letter, no repeated characters in a row, prefix, suffix and grouping.
- Copy or download: copy one at a time, copy all shown, or download everything as .txt. Not happy? Press "Generate again".
Unique passwords: no duplicates
In a batch, every password is different, and this rule is always on. When you hand out passwords to 30,000 users or create 30,000 coupon codes, no two people get the same one. The prefix and suffix are the same for every password, so uniqueness comes from the random part.
With very short passwords or few characters, fewer combinations may exist than you asked for. A 3-digit numeric code, for example, has only 1,000 options. The tool never repeats a password: it creates as many different ones as possible and tells you. A longer length or another character type fixes it.
Prefix, suffix and grouping
The prefix is added to the start of every password and the suffix to the end. With ACME- and -2026 you get passwords like ACME-k7Vq2pRw-2026. Handy for campaign codes, user passwords that start with a class or branch code, and in-house conventions. They don't count toward the length you choose.
Grouping splits the random part with a separator: every 4 characters with "-" gives ABCD-EFGH-JKLM. License keys, gift cards and coupon codes become easier to read and type without mistakes.
Rules and character options
- At least one of each selected type: many sites require an uppercase letter, a number and a symbol; this guarantees every password meets that rule.
- Start with a letter: some systems don't accept passwords or user codes that begin with a number or symbol.
- No identical characters in a row: prevents runs like "aa" or "11", which some password policies forbid.
- Exclude look-alikes: leaves out 0 and O, 1, l and I. Ideal for passwords written on paper, sent by SMS or read over the phone.
- My own characters: adds any characters you like to the pool, such as accented letters. Some sites don't accept them, so use with care.
- Characters to exclude: removes symbols that cause trouble in your system, such as quotes, backslashes or < >.
- Symbol list: edit it for systems that accept only certain symbols.
What makes a password strong?
Strength depends on the length and on how many different characters are used. The tool shows it in bits: each bit doubles the guesses an attacker needs. Under 60 bits is fair; 80 bits and above is very strong. A 16-character password with letters, numbers and symbols is over 100 bits. The prefix and suffix are the same for everyone, so only the random part adds strength.
Length matters more than complexity: 16 or 20 characters instead of 12 make a password far stronger. Avoid guessable passwords like birthdays, names or "123456", and use a different password for every account.
Are my passwords safe?
Yes. Passwords are created in your browser, not on a server. None are sent over the internet, stored or logged. The page only remembers your last settings, never the passwords.
The .txt file is also created right in your browser, with one password per line and special characters intact. Delete it or keep it somewhere safe when you're done. A password manager is the safest place to store passwords.
Frequently asked questions
Is the password generator free?
Yes. It's completely free, with no sign-up and no usage limits.
How many passwords can I create at once?
Up to 30,000. The first 100 appear on screen, and you can download all of them as a .txt file.
Can the same password appear twice?
No. Every password in the list is different. If the settings don't allow enough combinations, the tool warns you.
Do the prefix and suffix count toward the length?
No. The length is the random part; the prefix, suffix and separators are added on top.
Can I create coupon or license codes?
Yes. Select uppercase and numbers, exclude look-alikes, group every 4 characters and add a prefix if you like: ACME-K7VQ-2PRW.
Are the passwords truly random?
Yes. It uses the browser's cryptographic random number generator (crypto.getRandomValues), and every character has the same chance of being picked.
