What is a spin the wheel tool?
A wheel spinner is a digital prize wheel: you add names or options, spin, and the wheel stops on one of them at random. It is the quickest fair way to pick a student, choose who presents first, draw a giveaway winner or settle a decision.
The WebToolsMe spin the wheel works as a random name picker wheel that goes further than the usual ones. You can upload a list from Excel, CSV or TXT, give some entries a higher chance, remove winners automatically so everyone gets a turn, split the list into teams and show the wheel in fullscreen on a projector. Up to 1,000 entries fit on the wheel.
How to use the wheel
- Add entries: type or paste names in the list, one per line, or upload a file.
- Spin: press Spin, click the wheel or press the space bar.
- See the winner: the wheel slows down realistically, ticks past each slice and announces the winner with confetti.
- Remove or keep: remove the winner from the wheel for the next round, or keep it.
- Share: copy the wheel link and send it; it opens with the same list and title.
Features
Uploading a name list from Excel or CSV
Click Upload list and choose an .xlsx, .csv or .txt file. The wheel reads the first filled cell of every row, so a class list exported from a school system or a sign-up sheet works as it is. CSV files with commas, semicolons or tabs are supported.
After uploading you can still edit the list by hand. Use Remove duplicates to clean repeated names, Sort to order them alphabetically and Shuffle to mix the order on the wheel.
Is the wheel really random?
Yes. The winner is chosen with your browser’s cryptographically secure random number generator (crypto.getRandomValues) before the animation starts; the wheel then spins so that it lands on that slice. Every entry has the same chance unless you give it a weight, and the stopping point inside the slice is random too.
For giveaways it helps to show the process: open fullscreen, share your screen or record it, and keep the winner list from the history panel.
Ideas for using the wheel
- Classroom: pick a student to answer, choose a topic or a reading order.
- Giveaways: draw a winner among Instagram, YouTube or Twitch participants.
- Meetings: decide who speaks first in a stand-up or who takes notes.
- Games and parties: truth or dare, forfeits, party games.
- Daily decisions: what to eat, which movie to watch, where to go.
- Sports and teams: make fair random teams for a match.
- Yes or no: add Yes and No and let the wheel decide.
Random team generator
Under the wheel, enter the number of teams and press Make teams. The names are shuffled with secure randomness and dealt one by one, so team sizes differ by at most one person. Press it again for a new split, or copy the teams to paste into chat or email.
Keyboard shortcuts and fullscreen
- Space or Enter: spin the wheel
- F: fullscreen on a dark background, readable from the back of the room
- Esc: close the winner window
- Click the wheel: spins it too, handy on touch screens
Privacy
The wheel runs entirely in your browser. Names, settings and winners are saved only on this device (localStorage) and are never sent to a server. When you share a link, the list is inside the link itself, so only people you give it to can see it.
Frequently asked questions
Is the wheel spinner free?
