What is a random name picker?

A random name picker draws one or more names from a list completely at random. It is the fair way to choose a giveaway winner, assign tasks, pick students or run a raffle without slips of paper.

The WebToolsMe random name picker is built for real giveaway draws. You can draw several winners and backup winners in one go, pull @usernames out of pasted Instagram or TikTok comments, upload Excel or CSV lists of up to 100,000 entries, reveal winners one by one in fullscreen and download a result certificate with the date, number of participants and a unique draw code.

    How to run a draw

    • Add participants: paste names or comments, upload a file or reuse the list from the wheel.
    • Clean the list: use Extract @usernames and keep “Count each name only once” on so multiple comments do not add chances.
    • Set winners and backups: choose how many winners and reserve winners you need.
    • Draw: press Draw; after a 3-2-1 countdown names roll and each winner is revealed in turn.
    • Share the result: copy it or download the PNG or PDF certificate.

    Running a fair Instagram giveaway

Copy the comments under your post and paste them into the list. Extract @usernames keeps only the account names and removes duplicates, so someone who commented ten times has the same chance as everyone else (unless your rules say otherwise; then turn off “Count each name only once”).

Draw your winners plus a few backups in case a winner does not reply. Record your screen in fullscreen mode or go live, then post the PDF certificate in your stories. The draw code on the certificate is a fingerprint of the time, list and result, so you can show that the published result belongs to that draw.

    How random is the draw?

Winners are chosen with your browser’s cryptographically secure random number generator (crypto.getRandomValues) using an unbiased Fisher–Yates selection. The full result is fixed before the animation starts; the rolling names are only the presentation. Each participant has exactly the same chance, and once drawn nobody can be drawn again in the same round.

    When to use it

    • Social media giveaways on Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, X or Facebook.
    • Raffles and lucky draws at events, school fairs and office parties.
    • Secret Santa or gift exchanges: draw names in order.
    • Classrooms: pick students for presentations or groups.
    • Work: assign tasks, choose reviewers or the order of speakers.
    • Sports: draw fixtures or the order of play.

    Draw or wheel: which one?

Use the spin the wheel tool when you want a visual, playful pick of one name at a time. Use the random name picker when you need several winners at once, backups, very large lists or a documented result. Both share your list: press Use wheel list to bring the wheel’s names over.

    Privacy

The draw runs entirely in your browser. Participant lists, results and history are stored only on this device (localStorage) and are never uploaded. The certificate is generated on your device too.

    Frequently asked questions

Is the random name picker free?

How many participants can I add?

Up to 100,000 entries, typed, pasted or uploaded from Excel, CSV or TXT.

Can I draw more than one winner?

Yes. Draw up to 100 winners and 50 backups at once; each person can only be drawn once.

How do I pick a winner from Instagram comments?

Copy the comments, paste them into the list and press Extract @usernames, then draw.

Does someone with more comments get more chances?

Yes. Your last 20 draws are listed under Past draws; click one to open its result.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. Paste the list, set the numbers and tap Draw; fullscreen works on phones and tablets too.
